Many of our customers express their frustration with the amount of Capital One credit card offers they receive in the mail and via email.
Seeing as most of these mailings end up in the trash, many people want to know how they can stop Capital One from sending them mail.
The good news is that opting out of Capital One mail is quick and easy. Plus you can take some simple steps to make sure your details don’t end up back on its mailing list.
What junk mail does Capital One send?
Capital One is a financial services and credit card company. As such, not all of the mail it sends is junk mail. For example, it sends important account notifications to customers via mail, such as credit card bills and bank statements.
However, Capital One also sends a lot of marketing material to customers and non-customer alike. This can include simple brochures and promotions. But it can also include pre-approved credit card and insurance offers.
How to unsubscribe from Capital One mailing list?
If you’re a Capital One customer and wish to go paperless with your account correspondence, you can request this via its website here.
To opt out of Capital One marketing mailing lists, complete one of the following options:
- You can update your Capital One privacy choices via its free customer services number: 1-888-817-2970
- You can also opt out of Capital One email marketing online through its website. Click this link, then enter your name and email to request the opt out
How long does it take for the opt out request to take effect?
Capital One doesn’t quote a timeframe for how long the opt out process takes. But in our experience this can take anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks to take effect.
What other steps can I take if I continue to receive marketing material from Capital One after opting out?
You should take further steps if you’re still receiving unwanted junk mail from Capital One 6 weeks after submitting your opt out request.
- If an envelope has a return address, write “Rejected. Return to Sender” on the front of the envelope and put it back in the mail
- Make a formal complaint to Capital One. You can call their customer service number, or make a written complaint to this address: Capital One, Attn: General Correspondence, P.O. Box 30285, Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0287
- Submit an opt out request via OptOutPrescreen.com. This is a service run by the big 4 credit bureaux and it will inform them not to sell your data to credit card or insurance providers.
How can I make sure I stay off Capital One’s mailing list?
To stay off of Capital One’s mailing list, ensure you don’t consent to receiving marketing from the company whenever you interact with any of its services.
However, this alone won’t guarantee you that your personal details will remain off of its mailing list.
This is because many organizations such as Capital One also purchase personal data via third party intermediaries known as data brokers.
Therefore, you need to remove your personal data from data brokers, to ensure it doesn’t end up back on mailing lists such as Capital One.
Doing this by hand can be extremely time consuming though, as there are over 500 data brokers in the US.
