What Is the Do Not Call List Colorado?
The Colorado No-Call List is a list that Colorado residents can sign up their phone numbers for to reduce how many unsolicited telemarketing calls and/or texts they receive.
It is maintained by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.
The Do Not Call Register Colorado is free to sign up for. Business numbers cannot be listed on the Colorado DNC List, but residentials, wireless, and fax numbers can.
Once your number is on the Colorado Do Not Call Registry, it’s there forever unless you remove it.
The Do Not Call Colorado List is updated every three months on the 10th of October, 10th of January, 10th of April, and 10th of July.
Telemarketers have 20 days to update their lists.
How quickly your number appears on the list depends on when you register.
For example, if you register for the Colorado No-Call List on the 3rd of March, telemarketers must update their lists by the 30th of April, and you can file complaints or private legal actions on or after the 1st of May.
Exceptions to the Colorado No-Call List include calls from the following:
- Persons/entities you’ve given prior express permission/invitation to call you.
- Persons/entities you have an established business relationship with.
- Businesses you contacted to ask about the potential purchase of goods/services for 30 days after you enquired or until you request that they don’t contact you again.
- By or on behalf of a charitable organization (that’s required to and has complied with the notice and reporting requirements of section 6-16-104 C.R.S. or is excluded from such notice and reporting requirements by section 6-16-103(7) C.R.S).
- Persons/entities urging support for or opposition to a political candidate or ballot issue.
- Persons/entities conducting political polls or soliciting the expression of opinions, ideas, or votes.
See the list of telemarketers that follow the Colorado No-Call List.
The Colorado No-Call List is separate from the national DNC List. You should register your number on both lists for maximum protection.

What Is the National Do Not Call List?
If you’re not already registered to the national Do Not Call List, you should do so.
The Colorado No-Call website says, “Coloradans must now register on two do not call lists. To be sure that you are included on a no call list and so telemarketers do not call, Coloradans are encouraged to register on both this website and the National Do Not Call Registry. Recently, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) stopped accepting no call information from the states.”
The national DNC List is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
You can list your cell and home phone numbers on the national DNC List. Numbers remain on the list indefinitely unless you take them off the list yourself or your number is disconnected.
Telemarketers must stop contacting you within 31 days of your number being listed on the national DNC List. If they don’t, you can file a complaint with the FTC.
Not all calls are illegal under the national DNC List.
The following calls are permitted under the national list:
- Political calls
- Charitable calls
- Survey calls
- Calls from businesses you have an existing relationship with
- Calls for which you’ve given prior written consent.
What to Do If You’re Still Getting Unsolicited Calls
Registering for the Colorado No Call List and the national DNC List will decrease the amount of telemarketing calls you get, but it won’t stop them completely.
That’s mostly thanks to scammers, who will continue calling you as long as they can access your phone number.
Unfortunately, most people’s contact details, including phone numbers, are easy to find online through people search sites and data brokers who collect and publish individuals’ personal information online as comprehensive profiles.
Here’s a typical data broker profile:
You can delete your personal details from these sites by “opting out.”
See our opt-out guides for hundreds of data brokers.
You’ll need to opt out continuously to stay off these sites for good – data brokers relist your details when they find more of your information online.
