What Is the Do Not Call List Louisiana?

The Louisiana Do Not Call Program is a list that Louisiana residents can put their residential numbers on to reduce how many unsolicited telemarketing calls and texts they receive. 

The list is maintained and updated by the Louisiana Public Service Commission.

Signing up is free, but only residential numbers can be submitted. Business numbers are not allowed on the Louisiana Do Not Call Program. 

The list is updated every three months. 

Numbers remain on the Do Not Call Registry Louisiana for five years. After five years, you will need to register your number again. You will also need to re-register if you change your phone numbers. 

How quickly your number is published on the Do Not Call Register Louisiana depends on when you register. 

For example, if you sign up for the list sometime between the 2nd of December and the 1st of March, your number will appear in the updated list and be effective from the 1st of April. 

Exceptions to the Louisiana Do Not Call Program include calls from the following:

• Persons/entities whom you asked to call you. 
• In connection with an existing contract or debt, payment/performance of which hasn’t been completed at the time of the call. 
• Persons/entities with whom you have an existing business relationship or a prior business relationship that was terminated/lapsed within 6 months of the call (with some exceptions). 
• Organizations with a non-profit status under Section 501(c) (3), or (6) of the Internal Revenue Code, except if the organization uses the services of a paid professional solicitor, as defined in R.S. 51:1901(6).
• Persons/entities conducting marketing research, public opinion polling, or similar activities.
• Political calls. 
• Calls made without attempting to complete a sale over the phone, where the sale will only occur after a face-to-face meeting at the caller’s place of business or a location chosen by you, and the call is either to someone the caller personally knows or is the result of a referral (with certain conditions).
• Persons/entities calling to follow up or for periodic wellness care.

The state of Louisiana Do Not Call List is separate from the national DNC List. It is typically advised that you register for both lists for maximum effect. 

Penalties under the Do Not Call Louisiana List

If you’re getting calls from telemarketers even after your number is listed on the Do Not Call Louisiana List, you can file a complaint. 

The Louisiana Public Service Commission ‘Do Not Call’ staff will investigate the complaint. 

Violators of the Louisiana Do Not Call List can receive fines of up to $1,500 or up to 3,000 per violation if the person they called is over the age of 65. 

An additional $10,000 fine can be given to businesses that make calls without registering in compliance with the LPSC Do Not Call General Order.

2. Click “Louisiana Do Not Call – Consumer On-Line Registration Form”

3. Fill out the form

You will be redirected to a page with an online form. Fill it out.

Enter your first name, last name, phone number, email address, address, city, state, and zip code.

How to Remove Your Phone Number from the Louisiana Do Not Call List

To remove your phone number from the Louisiana Do Not Call List, mail your request to:

Important: If you have registered your number with the national DNC List, you’ll need to remove it from that list first. Otherwise, the Louisiana Do Not Call Program will include your number in their list with every update they get from the federal program.

What Is the National Do Not Call List?

In addition to listing your phone number on the Louisiana Do Not Call List, you should also list it on the national DNC List. 

The national DNC Registry, which is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), is where US residents can register their numbers to reduce how many unwanted telemarketing calls and texts they get. 

Unlike the Louisiana Do Not Call List, numbers remain on the national DNC List indefinitely. You only need to re-register if you remove your number from the list yourself or if your number is disconnected. 

After your number appears on the national DNC List, telemarketers have to stop calling/texting you within 31 days. If they don’t, you can file a complaint. 

Certain calls are exempted from the national DNC List, meaning they can still be made. 

These are: 

• Political calls
• Charitable calls
• Survey calls
• Calls from businesses you have an existing relationship with
• Calls for which you’ve given prior written consent.

What to Do If You’re Still Getting Unsolicited Calls 

Chances are, even if you sign up to the Louisiana Do Not Call List and national DNC List, you’ll still get unwanted calls.
