What Is the Do Not Call List Michigan?

There isn’t one. You won’t find a separate state of Michigan Do Not Call List (or Michigan Do Not Call Registry, Michigan DNC List, Do Not Call Register Michigan, etc.)

Michigan uses the national Do Not Call List as its own. 

As the Michigan Public Service Commission says on its website, “By signing up for the Federal Registry you will automatically be placed on Michigan’s Do Not Call list as well.”

Residents of Michigan who’d like to limit how many unwanted texts/calls they receive should list their cell and home phone numbers on the national DNC List. The national DNC List does not cover business numbers. 

Numbers on the national DNC List don’t expire, i.e., you won’t need to re-list them unless your number is disconnected or you remove your number from the list yourself. 

Once your number is published on the list, you should see a reduction in calls within about a month. Telemarketers are supposed to stop calling you within 31 days of your number being listed. 

If you’re still getting calls, you can file a complaint, although some calls are allowed, even if your number is on the national DNC List. 

Exceptions 

The following are exempt from the national DNC List:

• Political calls
• Charitable calls
• Survey calls
• Debt collection calls
• Informational calls
• Calls from businesses you have an existing relationship with
• Calls for which you’ve given prior written consent.

What to Do If You’re Still Getting Unsolicited Calls

That’s because scammers don’t care about lists like the national Do Not Call List. If they can find your contact details, they will call/text you.

The only effective way to stop scam calls is to hide your contact details.

Make sure your phone number isn’t listed anywhere online, including social media, personal blogs, and data brokers.

Data brokers are companies that gather your personal details from sources like social media and public records, compile them into comprehensive profiles, and then publish these profiles – with your phone number – on their websites.

You can remove your profile (and phone number) from these websites by choosing to “opt out.”

Note that you’ll need to opt out repeatedly. Even if you opt out once from a data broker, they’re more than likely to republish your information when they come across more of it. To make sure your phone number is off these sites for good, continuous opt out is necessary.
