What Is the Do Not Call List Oklahoma?

The Do Not Call List Oklahoma, officially known as the Oklahoma Telemarketer Restriction Act Consumer Registry, is a list on which Oklahoma residents can put their phone numbers to restrict the amount of telemarketing sales and calls they get.

Signing up for the Do Not Call List Oklahoma is free. 

The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office updates the state of Oklahoma Do Not Call List every 3 months. So, if you register your phone number on the 1st of March, telemarketers are not supposed to contact you from the 1st of May. 

Telemarketers are not permitted to call the numbers listed on the Oklahoma Do Not Call List.

However, there are some exceptions. These include calls from:

Penalties under the Do Not Call List Oklahoma

Telemarketers who violate the Oklahoma law can be charged with a misdemeanor for first-time offenses, resulting in a $500 fine and up to a year in the county jail. 

Repeat violations of the law can lead to felony charges punishable by fines of up to $10,000 and up to 10 years in prison.

How to Report Do Not Call List Violations In Oklahoma

You will be redirected to an online complaint form. Fill it out. 

What Is the National Do Not Call List?

In addition to adding your number to the Do Not Call Oklahoma List, you should also sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry.

Through the national DNC List, US consumers can restrict the amount of unwanted calls and texts they get. The national DNC List is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Numbers added to the national DNC List stay there permanently. You only need to re-register if your number is disconnected or you removed your number from the national DNC List yourself.   

Telemarketers are legally obliged to stop calling you within 31 days of your number being published on the national DNC List. If they continue to contact you, you can file a complaint against them. The FTC might enforce penalties. 

However, the following calls are permitted, even if your number is on the national DNC List:

• Political calls
• Charitable calls
• Survey calls
• Calls from businesses you have an existing relationship with
• Calls for which you’ve given prior written consent.

What to Do If You’re Still Getting Unsolicited Calls 

Signing up for a Do Not Call List, whether it’s a state or national list or both, will reduce the number of calls you receive, but it won’t stop them completely. 

More than likely, scammers will continue calling and/or texting you. And they’ll do so as long as they can access your contact details.
