What Is the Do Not Call List South Carolina?

There isn’t a South Carolina Do Not Call Registry. 

Instead, it is recommended that South Carolina residents sign up their cell and home phone numbers for the national Do Not Call List. Business numbers are not accepted. 

Telemarketers should legally stop calling you within 31 days of your name appearing on the national DNC List (that said, there are some exceptions, like political calls, debt collection calls, etc. – see the section below). 

You don’t need to worry about reregistering with the national DNC List. Unless your phone is disconnected or you remove it from the list manually, it’ll stay on there for good. 

Exceptions 

Some calls are exempt from the national DNC List.

These are: 

• Political calls
• Charitable calls
• Survey calls
• Debt collection calls
• Informational calls
• Calls from businesses you have an existing relationship with
• Calls for which you’ve given prior written consent.

If you’re still getting a lot of scam calls after you sign up for the national DNC List, it’s likely that your phone number appears somewhere online, like data broker sites. 

Data brokers (also known as people search sites) scrape your personal data, including phone numbers, from various sources, combine it in detailed profiles, and share these profiles with (more or less) anyone.

Most data brokers let you remove your profile from their database. This is known as “opting out.” 

Since each data broker (and there are hundreds of them) has a different opt-out process, it can be helpful to use opt-out guides. 

Remember to check back regularly – data brokers republish people’s information when they find more of it.
