What Is the Do Not Call List South Dakota?
South Dakota Do Not Call Registry doesn’t exist.
Like many other states in the US, instead of maintaining a separate Do Not Call Register, South Dakota has adopted the national Do Not Call List as its own.
That means that South Dakota residents wishing to limit the number of calls/texts they get from telemarketers should sign up their cell and home phone numbers for the national DNC List.
Since the national DNC List is for personal numbers only, business numbers are not permitted.
Within 31 days of your number showing up on the national DNC List, telemarketers are obliged to stop contacting you. That said, some calls are exempt from the national DNC List, meaning you can still get them. See a list of exempt calls in the ‘Exceptions’ section.
Numbers on the national DNC List remain there permanently. You only need to re-register if you took your number off the list or if your number is disconnected.
Exceptions
The national DNC List permits the following calls to be made:
- Political calls
- Charitable calls
- Survey calls
- Debt collection calls
- Informational calls
- Calls from businesses you have an existing relationship with
- Calls for which you’ve given prior written consent.

What to Do If You’re Still Getting Unsolicited Calls
Registering with the national Do Not Call List will not stop all unsolicited calls.
Although legitimate telemarketers should stop contacting you, scammers will more than likely continue to call/text you. After all, they don’t care about lists like the National Do Not Call List – they’re breaking the law already.
The most effective method of stopping scammers from calling/texting you is to remove your contact details from data brokers and people search sites.
Data brokers and people search sites are companies that list your personal information, including your phone numbers, online. As such, anyone can find your number through a simple Google search.
Here’s what a typical data broker profile looks like:
If you don’t want your phone number and other personal information to be findable online through these kinds of sites, you can “opt out.”
Take a look at our opt-out guides for step-by-step instructions on how to opt out from hundreds of data brokers in existence today.
Opting out once isn’t enough – you’ll need to repeat the process again and again because as soon as more of your personal information appears online (public records, social media, etc.), data brokers will find it and relist it.
