What Is the Do Not Call List Texas?
The Texas Do Not Call List, officially known as the “No Call List,” is a list that Texas residents can register for to reduce how many unwanted telemarketing calls and texts they receive.
In Texas, there are two Do Not Call Lists:
- Statewide “Do Not Call” List. This list is for residential or wireless phone numbers.
- “Electric No Call” List. This list is for business phone numbers.
The Texas No Call Lists are overseen and enforced by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. PUCT has contracted with Gryphon Networks Corp. to operate and maintain the lists.
It is completely free to sign up for Texas No Call Lists.
Wireless and residential numbers remain on the list for three years, whereas business numbers remain on the list for five years.
The list is updated every three months (1st of January, 1st of April, 1st of July, and 1st of October).
The date you register on the Texas No Call Lists determines when telemarketers will stop calling you.
For example, if you register sometime between the 1st of January and the 31st of March, telemarketing calls to your number should stop by the 1st of June.
Exceptions to the Texas No Call Lists include calls from the following:
- Persons/entities with whom you have an established business relationship within the last 12 months.
- Persons/entities whom you requested contact you.
- Debt collectors.
- On behalf of non-profit organizations or charities (if the call doesn’t try to make a sale or collect information that will result in a sale).
- State licensees, e.g., real estate agents, if the call is not made with an automated device, the solicited transaction is complete with a face-to-face presentation to finalize it and make a payment, and if you haven’t previously told the licensee you don’t want to be contacted.
The Texas No Call Lists are separate from the national DNC List. It is generally recommended that you register for both state and national lists.
Penalties under the Do Not Call List Texas
If you’re getting calls from telemarketers even after your number is listed on the Texas No Call Lists, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General, the Public Utility Commission, or the Better Business Bureau.
You can also pursue your own civil enforcement action after a second or subsequent violation, provided you have:
a) Notified the telemarketer of the alleged violation and filed a complaint with the Public Utility Commission no later than the 30th day after the call was made.
b) The Public Utility Commission or another state agency failed to start an investigation before the 121st day after you filed the complaint.

What Is the National Do Not Call List?
After you sign up for the Texas No Call Lists, you should also register for the national Do Not Call List if you haven’t already done so.
The national DNC Registry, managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), lets US residents indicate to telemarketers that they don’t want to be contacted by listing their cell and home phone numbers on the DNC List.
Unlike the Texas No Call Lists, numbers stay on the national DNC List permanently unless your number is disconnected or you remove it from the list yourself.
Once your number is published on the national DNC List, telemarketers must stop contacting you within 31 days. If they continue to contact you, you can complain to the FTC.
The national DNC List allows certain calls to be made even to residents whose numbers are on the list.
These include:
- Political calls
- Charitable calls
- Survey calls
- Calls from businesses you have an existing relationship with
- Calls for which you’ve given prior written consent.
What to Do If You’re Still Getting Unsolicited Calls
Getting your number listed on Do Not Call Lists, whether state or national DNC Lists, will reduce how many unsolicited telemarketing calls and texts you receive, but it won’t completely eliminate them.
The main reason why is that scammers don’t care about such lists since they’re already breaking the law anyway.
Unless you hide your contact details, scammers will continue contacting you.
Most people’s contact information is easy to find online through sources like people search sites and data brokers. These companies gather your data from various sources, collate it into a detailed profile, and then list this profile for anyone to access.
Here’s what a typical data broker profile looks like:
To prevent your phone number and other information from being listed on data broker sites, you need to “opt out.”
See our opt-out guides for hundreds of data brokers that exist today.
Remember to return to these sites periodically to ensure your profile was not relisted. Data brokers republish people’s personal information when they find more of it online. As a result, opt-outs need to happen continuously.
