If you’re thinking of buying Stopwatt, you need to know: Is Stopwatt a scam?
Below, we explain whether Stopwatt is a scam and discuss some steps you can take to improve your safety with this device.
What Is Stopwatt?
Stopwatt is a small, plug-in device that’s marketed as being able to significantly reduce energy consumption and household electricity bills.

Another rebranded name used interchangeably with Stopwatt is Pro Power Saver.
Stopwatt is marketed through online platforms and is allegedly endorsed by Elon Musk and Jennifer Granholm.
Is Stopwatt a Scam?
Yes, Stopwatt is a scam.
According to the fact-checking site Snopes, Stopwatt is one of several names used for a deceptive “electricity-saving box.” The device is frequently rebranded under different names, like “Pro Power Save” and “WattSaver,” to evade detection and continue the scam.

Stopwatt ads typically promise unrealistic savings, such as a 90% reduction in electricity bills.
The device is also often incorrectly linked to Tesla – the company and the inventor Nikola Tesla – as well as Elon Musk (scammers use manipulated photos showing Elon Musk holding the device). Neither Elon Musk nor Tesla has created or endorsed StopWatt.

The physical devices typically have minimal and poorly translated text, such as “Intelligent Energy Saver. Electricity-Saving Box. The Result Is the Best.”
Online articles promoting the benefits of Stopwatt are similarly poorly written/translated.

Websites that sell Stopwatt and similar devices use fake reviews.
Independent reviews have demonstrated that “electricity-saving” devices like Stopwatt do not reduce electricity consumption and may, in fact, pose fire and shock hazards.
The device typically consists of basic electrical components like a simple circuit board, capacitor, and LED light, which do not contribute to reducing electricity consumption.
