If you use or plan to use Fiverr, you need to know: Is Fiverr safe?

Below, we explain whether Fiverr is:

  • Safe to use.
  • Good for privacy.

We also look at some steps you can take to improve both your safety and privacy when using this online service.

What Is Fiverr?

Fiverr is an online marketplace where freelancers offer a variety of services to customers worldwide.

Launched in 2010, Fiverr has grown into one of the largest platforms for freelance work, connecting businesses and individuals with professionals who can provide services across a wide range of categories.

Fiverr covers a broad spectrum of categories, including graphic design, digital marketing, writing and translation, video and animation, music and audio, programming and tech, business, and lifestyle services.

Services on Fiverr are called “gigs.” Freelancers, also known as sellers, create gigs that describe the services they offer, along with pricing and other details.

Originally, all gigs on Fiverr were priced at $5, but now sellers can set their own prices, which can range from $5 to hundreds or even thousands of dollars, depending on the complexity and scope of the service.

Is Fiverr Safe?

Yes, Fiverr is generally considered safe for both buyers and sellers.

Fiverr handles all transactions through its platform, ensuring secure payment processes. Buyers pay upfront; funds are released to sellers only after the work is completed and approved.

Buyers can leave reviews and ratings for sellers, providing transparency, helping other users make informed decisions, and lessening the potential for scams.

If a problem arises, Fiverr offers a dispute resolution system to handle conflicts between buyers and sellers. If a project doesn’t go as planned, Fiverr’s customer support can mediate and help resolve issues.

No major data breaches from Fiverr were identified at the time of writing.

Is Fiverr safe, according to Reddit?

Yes, Fiverr is considered safe by most Redditors, regardless of whether you’re a buyer or seller. Most users have not had a problem with the platform.

Is Fiverr safe to work?

Yes, Fiverr is safe to work for.

Fiverr handles the payment process, ensuring that freelancers are paid for completed work. This reduces the risk of non-payment compared to some other freelancing platforms.

However, the platform’s open nature means freelancers may encounter clients with unrealistic expectations or demand high-quality work for very low pay. This can lead to disputes and dissatisfaction.

Is Fiverr safe for credit cards?

Yes, Fiverr is safe for credit cards.

Fiverr uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology to encrypt data transmitted between your browser and Fiverr’s servers, ensuring that your payment details are secure.

Payments on Fiverr are handled through reputable third-party payment processors.

Fiverr also has systems in place to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions, providing an added layer of protection for users making payments on the platform.

Is auto refresh safe for Fiverr?

No, auto refresh is not safe for Fiverr. It is against the platform’s terms of service and can result in your account being banned.

Is Fiverr Private?

Depends on your definition of “private.”

According to Fiverr, the service takes privacy seriously and has implemented measures to safeguard users’ personal information.

These measures include:

  • Encryption to protect users’ personal and financial information during transactions and communications.
  • User ability to update or delete their profiles as well as control the visibility of their personal details.
  • A secure messaging system for buyers and sellers to communicate, helping to protect personal information and project details from unauthorized access.

Fiverr has a fairly comprehensive privacy policy that outlines how user data is collected, used, and protected.

This policy is designed to comply with global data protection regulations.

In it, Fiverr notes that it collects personal information (including email address, name, physical address, billing information, telephone number, date of birth, details about linked social network accounts, profile information, government ID details, and biometric information), usage details while on the site (including IP address, browser and device info, and location details), and third party information (including your job title and organization).

However, just because Fiverr’s privacy policy is comprehensive, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good.

Terms of Service; Didn’t Read, a project that scores internet services’ terms of service and privacy policies, gives Fiverr a “Grade E,” the worst grade a service can get.

Some of the concerns raised include the service holding onto content that users have deleted, the service keeping logs for an undefined period of time, and the service reserving the right to disclose your personal information without notifying you.

How to Improve Your Safety and Privacy on Fiverr

For a safer and more private experience on Fiverr, follow these steps:

  • Use an alias or professional username. Choose a username that doesn’t reveal your real name. Use a professional alias or business name instead.
  • Post a professional profile picture. Use a logo or a professional image rather than a personal photo.
  • Limit personal information. Avoid sharing personal details such as your full name, address, phone number, or personal email in your profile or gig descriptions.
  • Use private portfolios. Share work samples only through Fiverr’s messaging system rather than linking to personal portfolios that might reveal your identity.
  • Use secure communication. Keep all communication within Fiverr’s platform. Avoid sharing personal contact details like email addresses or phone numbers with clients.
  • Use Fiverr’s payment system. Always use Fiverr’s payment system to handle transactions. This keeps your financial details secure and ensures you are protected by Fiverr’s policies.
  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA). Turn on 2FA for added account security. This requires an additional verification step when logging in, making it harder for unauthorized users to access your account.
  • Use strong passwords. Use strong, unique passwords for your Fiverr account. Avoid using the same password across multiple sites.
  • Review privacy settings. Regularly check and update your privacy settings on Fiverr to control what information is visible to others.
  • Monitor account activity. Regularly review your account activity for any unauthorized actions. Report any suspicious activity to Fiverr immediately.
  • Be cautious with external links. Avoid clicking on external links from untrusted sources, as they could be phishing attempts. Always verify the legitimacy of any link before clicking.
