If you use or plan to use FreeConvert, you need to know: Is FreeConvert safe?

Below, we explain whether FreeConvert is:

  • Safe to use.
  • Good for privacy.

We also look at some steps you can take to improve both your safety and privacy when using this online service.

What Is FreeConvert?

FreeConvert is a website that provides various online tools for converting files between different formats.

FreeConvert

It supports conversions for images, documents, audio files, videos, and more. Users can convert PDFs to Word documents, MP4 to GIF, JPG to PNG, and many other combinations.

FreeConvert is popular because it offers these services for free without requiring users to download software, making it convenient for quick file format changes. Users can upload files directly from their computer or provide a URL to convert files.

In addition to file conversion, FreeConvert offers other useful tools such as image resizing, PDF merging, PDF splitting, and more.

Is FreeConvert Safe?

Hard to say.

There isn’t much information available about FreeConvert from a safety perspective.

In its privacy policy, FreeConvert says that it takes measures to ensure the safety and security of user data and files. These include encryption and other security protocols (including HTTPS) to protect data during transmission and storage.

If you sign up for a FreeConvert plan, your payment details are stored in Stripe, PayPal, and Braintree. FreeConvert never gets your full credit card details (only the last four digits).

No major data breaches involving FreeConvert have been publicized as of this writing.

Is FreeConvert Private?

To a degree, yes.

In its privacy policy, FreeConvert says it stores all user files on Amazon Web Services’s Simple Storage Service (S3), which is based in Ireland. It also says it does not access or view user files but may do so with the user’s explicit and written consent or if they have to comply with legal procedures.

Files uploaded to FreeConvert are automatically and permanently deleted eight hours later. Users can also permanently delete the files they upload manually before the eight hours are up.

FreeConvert’s privacy policy is easy to read and outlines what user data it collects, why, and with whom it shares it. It says it never sells user data to any third party.

The company says it will delete users’ personal data in identifiable form for up to three years after it is no longer necessary.

FreeConvert’s privacy policy has not been reviewed by external review sites like Terms of Service; Didn’t Read or the Common Sense Privacy Program as of this writing.

How to Improve Your Safety and Privacy On FreeConvert

Follow the steps below for a more private and secure experience on FreeConvert.

  • Use secure connections. Ensure you access FreeConvert via HTTPS, which encrypts data transmission between your browser and their servers. Look for the padlock icon in your browser’s address bar.
  • Avoid sensitive information. Refrain from uploading sensitive or confidential files unless necessary. Consider using offline tools or services with robust privacy policies for such files.
  • Use anonymized data. Where possible, anonymize or remove personal information from files before uploading them for conversion.
  • Clear browser cache. After using FreeConvert, clear your browser’s cache and cookies to remove any temporary data that may have been stored during your session.
  • Limit storage permissions. If FreeConvert asks permission to store cookies or local data, consider limiting these permissions in your browser settings or using private browsing modes.
  • Use trusted devices. Avoid using public or shared computers for uploading sensitive files to FreeConvert. Use trusted devices and secure networks whenever possible.
