Is Grammarly Safe?

Yes, Grammarly is generally considered safe to use. 

The company takes several measures to protect user data, including strong encryption protocols (SSL/TLS) to protect data in transit between your device and its servers. All data is stored in secure AWS (Amazon Web Services) data centers, which are known for having high-security standards that comply with various regulatory requirements.

In addition, Grammarly implements strict access controls to ensure only authorized personnel can access user data.

Grammarly has received multiple certifications and attestations, including ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, and SOC 2 (Type 1 and 2). It also says it undergoes third-party penetration tests and has a bug bounty program where external security researchers can report vulnerabilities.

According to Grammarly, customers are in full control of their data and continue to own their data while using the service. Keystrokes aren’t recorded, and sensitive fields such as names, birthdays, and addresses are intentionally blocked from Grammarly’s access.

In its privacy policy, Grammarly notes that it doesn’t sell customer data but can share it with third parties (such as Amazon) to help provide its service. The data that Grammarly collects is fully encrypted. 

Grammarly says it will never make major changes to its privacy policy that affect you without giving you advance notice. 

Terms of Service; Didn’t Read, a project that rates internet services’ terms of service and privacy policies, hasn’t given Grammarly an aggregated grade. 

However, the project notes that Grammarly doesn’t promise to inform users about government data requests and that many third parties are involved in operating the service. It also highlights that Grammarly may use tracking pixels, web beacons, or similar technologies on users.
