If you use or plan to use Keepsafe, you need to know: Is Keepsafe safe?
Below, we explain whether Keepsafe is:
- Safe to use.
- Good for privacy.
We also look at some steps you can take to improve both your safety and privacy when using this app.
What Is Keepsafe?
Keepsafe is a mobile app designed to help users protect and store private photos, videos, and other files securely on their devices.

The app works like a personal vault ‒ users can lock their important media with a PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition. This app adds extra privacy for those who want to hide certain files from others, like friends or family, who might use their phones.
Keepsafe lets users sort their files into albums, so managing private content becomes very easy.
Besides securing media on a device, Keepsafe offers cloud backup through Keepsafe Premium. This lets users safely store files online and get them back if their phone is lost, stolen, or damaged. The app uses encryption to protect files.
Keepsafe also includes features like “Intruder Alerts,” which tell the user if someone tries to open the app with a wrong PIN, and “Safe Send” for sharing images for a limited time.
Is Keepsafe Safe?
Depends on your definition of “safe.”
The app has PIN-code password protection, fingerprint or touch ID, and military-grade encryption.
Keepsafe also provides alerts that tell users if anyone tries to enter their vault using the wrong details.
In its privacy policy, Keepsafe says it uses a “variety of technologies and procedures designed to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.” It doesn’t go into detail as to what these technologies and procedures are.
Keepsafe has a 4.8 out of 5.0 rating (from 1.96m reviews) on Google Play at the time of writing and has been downloaded 50m+ times. It has a 4.7 out of 5.0 rating (from 322.6k ratings) on the App Store at the time of writing.
There are no data breaches associated with Keepsafe at the time of writing.
Is Keepsafe Private?
Again, depends on your definition of “private.”
Keepsafe is designed to enhance privacy by allowing users to lock away personal photos, videos, and files. It even offers a decoy icon app so that your pictures are not exposed in your photo gallery.

According to its privacy policy, Keepsafe collects information like your contact details, account information and content, transaction information, forum content, feedback and correspondence, marketing data, contact details for parties you invite, device information, online activity data, communication interaction data, and other data.
Keepsafe may share your data with affiliates, service providers, advertising partners, authorities, business and marketing partners, professional advisors, business transfers, and other users (e.g., your forum content is visible to other users).
There’s not much information about Keepsafe outside its own website, though some users are concerned about the company’s privacy policy, specifically Keepsafe saying that “Unless you ask us to, we don’t look at your photos, videos, passwords or anything else on your device” (i.e., implying that they could look at your files if they wanted to).
According to an article on KeepSafe’s security and privacy from a competing service, this creates a vulnerability where malicious actors, hackers, or rogue staff could potentially exploit this access.
Keepsafe’s Private Photo Vault page on Google Play says that users can request that their data be deleted.

However, one internet user reported that they were unable to delete their KeepSafe account despite contacting KeepSafe support.
The Common Sense Privacy Program, which rates internet services from the perspective of kids’ privacy, gives Keepsafe a “Warning” rating. This means the app “Does not meet our recommendations for privacy and security practices.”
The Program notes that it is unclear whether personal information is sold or rented to third parties, personal information is shared for third-party marketing, personalized ads are displayed, data is collected by third parties for their own purposes, users’ information is used to track and target ads on other websites, and data profiles are created and used for personalized ads.
How to Improve Your Safety and Privacy On Keepsafe
Follow the below steps for a safer and more private experience while using Keepsafe.
- Avoid cloud backup. By storing your photos and files directly on your device, you lower the chances of them being accessed or exposed in the cloud.
- Use a strong PIN and biometric authentication. Choose a strong PIN and enable biometric authentication to reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access.
- Turn off unnecessary app permissions. Review Keepsafe’s permissions in your device’s settings and turn off any features you don’t need to limit how much data the app can collect, improving your privacy.
- Delete unnecessary sensitive files. Regularly review and delete sensitive files you no longer need. Reducing the amount of data stored in Keepsafe minimizes the risk of personal information being compromised.
- Keep the app up to date. Make sure you’re using the latest version of Keepsafe. Updates often include security improvements and bug fixes, making the app more secure.
- Review Keepsafe’s privacy policy regularly. Check Keepsafe’s privacy policy periodically to stay updated on any changes in their data handling and sharing practices. This ensures that you are always aware of how your data is being managed.
