If you use or plan to use Temp Mail, you need to know: Is Temp Mail safe?

Below, we explain whether Temp Mail is:

  • Safe to use.
  • Good for privacy.

We also look at some steps you can take to improve both your safety and privacy when using this online service.

What Is Temp Mail?

Temp Mail is a service that provides temporary, disposable email addresses for users who want to avoid spam or protect their privacy.

Temp Mail

These email addresses are created instantly and can receive emails, including attachments, for a limited time.

The service is commonly used when signing up for websites or services that require an email address but where you don’t want to use your primary email.

Once you’re done, the email address and its contents are automatically deleted.

Is Temp Mail Safe?

Yes, Temp Mail is generally considered safe to use.

It provides anonymous, disposable email addresses that help protect your primary email from spam and unwanted communications.

TechRadar reviewed temp Mail positively in 2021.

On Google Play, it gets a 4.6 rating out of 341k reviews and has been downloaded 10+ million times. On the App Store, it gets a 4.7 rating out of 14,791 reviews.

While Temp Mail has no associated data breaches, a long-standing vulnerability was detected on the site in 2023. It has since been patched.

Is Temp Mail Private?

Depends on your definition of “private,” but generally, yes.

Temp Mail provides anonymous, disposable email addresses, which can help protect your primary email from spam and unwanted tracking.

Since these addresses are temporary and not linked to your personal information, they add a layer of privacy when interacting with websites or services.

According to Temp Mail, all your emails are deleted after one hour.

Benefits of Temp Mail

In its privacy policy, Temp Mail outlines that it collects minimal information from users and that email addresses are entirely anonymous. IP address information is not collected in association with personal data.

Information Temp Mail collects

Temp Mail’s privacy policy hasn’t been graded by Terms of Service; Didn’t Read (ToS;DR), a project that rates internet services’ terms of service and privacy policies.

However, ToS;DR notes as concerns that user logs are kept for an undefined period of time and third-party cookies are used for advertising.

On the plus side, ToS;DR says that you can opt out of providing personal information to third parties, that the IP addresses of website visitors are not tracked, and that confidentiality obligations bind third parties used by the service.

How to Improve Your Safety and Privacy On Temp Mail

Follow the steps below for a more private and secure experience while using Temp Mail.

  • Use temporary email only for disposable or non-personal accounts. Don’t use Temp Mail if you think you’ll need to gain access to the inbox again, especially when signing up for any services that may send sensitive or personal data. Instead, reserve it for non-essential purposes like signing up for newsletters or trial accounts.
  • Clear cookies and cache. After using Temp Mail, clear your browser’s cookies and cache to prevent tracking or re-accessing the same temporary inbox if it’s still active in your session.
  • Avoid creating an account. Don’t create an account and share your actual email address unless you are required to.
