If you use or plan to use Triller, you need to know: Is Triller safe?
Below, we explain whether Triller is:
- Safe to use.
- Good for privacy.
We also look at some steps you can take to improve both your safety and privacy when using this social networking app.
What Is Triller?
Triller is a video-sharing social networking app that lets users create, edit, and share short-form videos.

Initially launched in 2015, Triller is positioned as a TikTok alternative.
Users can create music videos (with auto-editing) or social videos (without music). AI-based editing tools allow you to stitch multiple video clips automatically.
You can watch Triller videos without an account, but an account is required to create content, follow users, and interact.
It is available on Android and iOS.
Is Triller Safe?
Depends on your definition of “safe.”
Since Triller is a platform for user-generated videos, content can vary widely. While the app does have guidelines and moderation systems in place, it’s possible for explicit or harmful material to be uploaded before it’s flagged or removed.
In its privacy policy, Triller says it “maintains appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards” to protect your information. It does not specify what these safeguards are.

According to its Google Play page, Triller encrypts data in transit and allows people to request that their data be deleted.

Triller gets a 2.4 out of 5.0-star rating (out of 258k reviews and 10m+ downloads) on Google Play and a 4.6 out of 5.0-star rating (out of 188.6k ratings) on the App Store.
There have not been any data breaches associated with Triller at the time of writing.
Is Triller Private?
Again, depends on your definition of “private.”
You can set your account to public or private, which gives you more control over who can see and interact with your content.
You can block other accounts if someone makes you uncomfortable. You can also turn off data collection and delete your Triller account. Triller says it completes most deletion requests within 30 days.
After 30 days, your personal data, including personally identifiable information like your name, phone number, and email address, is removed from their systems. Your content will also be deleted from Triller systems, and any comments you’ve left or any mentions (@) will be anonymized so your account can’t be linked to them.

In its privacy policy, Triller details the kind of personal information it collects (e.g., name, gender, date of birth, IP address, payment information, education, employment, signature, device keyword settings, times and dates, and the extent of your usage of the platform, location data, metadata, etc.), why (provide products/services, marketing, etc.), and whom it shares is with (subsidiaries, affiliates, etc.)
It also details the permissions its app requires, including your camera, contact, microphone, location, photos, storage, and other information.

In 2022, the Common Sense Privacy Program gave Triller’s privacy policy a score of 39% (out of 100%), which is a “Warning.” This means the privacy policy “Does not meet our recommendations for privacy and security practices.”

The top concerns listed include Triller selling or renting personal information to third parties, sharing users’ personal information for third-party marketing, displaying personalized ads, allowing third parties to collect data for their own purposes, and creating and using data profiles for personalized ads.
