How to Cancel the Orvis Catalog

August 1, 2022

If you’re interested in fly fishing, hunting, or sporting equipment, maybe you receive catalogs from U.S.-based retailer, Orvis. If you’re not in the market for their goods, on the other hand, but are still getting their catalogs, you might consider removing yourself from their mailing list.

In this guide, we’ll explain the easiest way to do that, as well as ways to stop junk mail for good

What type of junk mail does Orvis send?

If you’re on the Orvis mailing list, you can expect to receive a number of catalogs each year. The company in fact has five different catalogs divisions, exclusive to “Men,” “Women,” “Dogs,” “Fly Fishing,” and “Hunt,” respectively.

It’s also likely Orvis will send out other marketing material regarding upcoming sales or events.

How can you opt out of Orvis catalogs?

Thankfully, Orvis provides an easy online opt-out guide for anyone wishing to remove themselves from the mailing list. Just follow the link to manage your catalog subscription and enter your name, address, and email.

You can also make selections depending on whether or not you want to be removed from all catalog mailing lists, or just specific ones.

Once you’ve marked your preferences, click “Submit Request” to begin the opt-out process.

How long does the Orvis mailing list opt-out process take?

Although the mailing list removal form on Orvis’s website is relatively quick and painless, how long before the actual removal takes effect isn’t specified.

In our experience, though, expect this type of opt-out process to take between 4 and 6 weeks.

What if you keep receiving catalogs from Orvis after opting out?

If it’s been more than 6 weeks since you submitted your opt-out request and you’re still receiving the Orvis catalog, consider taking these further measures to stop the junk mail.

  • Try and send the catalogs back by writing “Refused: Return to Sender” on the label and putting it back in the mailbox.
  • Make a formal complaint to Orvis by contacting their customer service team. Call them at 1-888-235-9763 or email customerservice@orvis.com
  • Register with Catalog Choice and DMAChoice. These independent services can help to opt you out of catalogs and manage the type of junk mail you receive.

How can you stay off the Orvis mailing list?

We hate to tell you this, but keeping your name off mailing lists can be pretty tricky. It’s because most companies acquire your personal information through the use of data brokers.

Data brokers collect online personal information before collating them into sellable profiles. What that means is, even if you’ve never shopped from a particular catalog, you might find yourself on its mailing list. Data-broker transactions also lead to robocalls and spam texts

In addition to that, certain companies may have third-party agreements in which your information is automatically shared with other companies. It’s often likely this information is found in privacy policies that few customers take time to read.

The best thing you can do for your own security is to remove your information from data-broker sites. But, with hundreds of data brokers operating in the U.S. alone, this isn’t easy to do.
A solution is to hire a data broker removal service like DeleteMe that conducts the entire process on your behalf. In fact, for as little as $10.75 a month, our privacy specialist will make sure your data is removed from countless data broker sites and stays off.
