DeleteMe ZabaSearch Review
Because ZabaSearch is owned by Intelius, you can opt-out of ZabaSearch through the Intelius opt-out procedure. Removing yourself from Intelius requires you to fill out an opt-out form and verify your email address. Your listing should be removed within 72 hours.
ZabaSearch is a data broker website that crawls the web, aggregating information and compiling it into listings. Like other data broker sites, ZabaSearch presents itself as a site to help people find long-lost friends and relatives. Really, it just finds personal information and posts it online — anyone can find it.
When data broker sites like ZabaSearch create a listing for you, it is likely to show up in Google when people search for your name. The result might look something like this:
As you can see, they advertise having details like her address and phone number. This is the kind of information that people look for when they are looking to steal your identity, commit financial fraud, and more.
As mentioned above, ZabaSearch is owned by Intelius. They also own other data broker sites; including DateCheck, PeopleLookUp, and US Search. This means that if your information can be found on ZabaSearch, it’s probably also posted on all of the other affiliated sites.
What kind of information do they have?
When you search for a name on ZabaSearch, you will find a list of results that look like this:
If you click “View full profile”, you’ll be redirected to Intelius, where you’ll be able to purchase a full report for just 95 cents, including the person’s full name, age and date of birth, addresses, phone number, and relatives’ names. Another $6 will also get you their email addresses and links to their social media profiles. For $39.95 you will get all of the that info, plus employment and education information, a criminal check, liens, bankruptcies, judgements, lawsuits, and marriage and divorce records.
A paid report from Intelius would look something like this:
How do they find this information?
Intelius crawls the web for publicly available information from government records, social media, and other public databases. When searching on Intelius, I found my age, address, phone number, and relatives’ names. Unfortunately, it is legal for Intelius, and their affiliated sites like ZabaSearch, to put all of this online.
How to Opt-Out of ZabaSearch via Intelius: Step-by-Step
1. Go to their opt-out website, http://intelius.com/optout, and search for your listing.
2. Find your listing and click “select and continue”.
3. You will have to enter your email address to verify your opt-out request. Enter your email address (we recommend using a masked email), perform the CAPTCHA, and click “continue”.
4. You will be shown a page saying that a verification link was sent to your email.
5. Open your email and click on the verification link that was sent to you.
6. You will be redirected back to the Intelius page, confirming that your request was successfully submitted.
7. Next, you will get an email that your request is being processed.
8. Wait for the final confirmation email. You should receive this within 72 hours.
Final Steps
Although your listing should be removed from Intelius within 72 hours, you should check to make sure that it was also removed from ZabaSearch and the other affiliated sites. Also, Intelius might re-collect your personal information as it crawls the web, and build new listings for you. So, it’s good to keep checking up on the site, and make sure your listing hasn’t resurfaced. Finally, even though removing yourself from Intelius might remove you from ZabaSearch and other affiliated sites, it doesn’t remove you from the many other data broker sites out there, such as Whitepages or MyLife, so you will need to opt-out of those as well.
It’s hard work to keep data broker sites from posting this information. That’s why we created DeleteMe. DeleteMe does the tough work of removing your private information from these kinds of websites. Plus, DeleteMe monitors for your information year-round, and sends you a report every four months to keep you protected.
