If you’re thinking of using JustPlay, you need to know if JustPlay is safe. Is JustPlay a scam?

Below, we explain whether JustPlay is a scam and discuss some steps you can take to improve your safety when using this app.

What Is JustPlay?

JustPlay is a “play‑to‑earn” app.

Users can play casual mobile games, earn coins (through gameplay, ads, and offers), and cash out through PayPal or gift cards, or donate to charity (which the company matches)

JustPlay

JustPlay is only available on Android devices.

It was founded in 2020 and is owned and operated by JustPlay GmbH, a registered mobile entertainment company based in Berlin, Germany.

Is JustPlay a Scam?

No, JustPlay is not a scam. It’s a legitimate mobile rewards platform.

Third-party review sites like The Budget Diet review JustPlay favorably.

That said, The Budget Diet notes that there are quite a lot of ads on JustPlay and a low earning potential. It also warns that JustPlay requires you to submit a facial scan as a way to prove your identity before you can cash out.

MoneyPantry, another review site, also reviewed JustPlay and concluded the following:

“Although it is legit, the earning potential is pretty low. One coin is worth just $0.0000125, which means that you’d need around 80,000 coins to earn just $1.”

User reviews of JustPlay are mixed:

  • 4.2 out of 5.0 stars (from 1,298 reviews) on Trustpilot.
  • 4.5 out of 5.0 stars (from 1,277,568 reviews) on Google Play.
  • 2.1 out of 5.0 stars (from 142 reviews) on Pissed Consumer.

On online forums like Reddit, people generally report having had positive experiences with JustPlay.

One person said: “I’ve been using this app for years..I’ve cashed out close to $70.00 I don’t play everyday.”

Positive Reddit post about JustPlay

However, many people note that JustPlay appears to pay users random, rather than set, rewards.

According to one Redditor: “I got rid of JustPlay ages ago. They don’t have an exact rate. They just pay you random amounts. One time I played their games for around an hour or so and only got $.27, another time I played for 15 ish minutes and got $.42. Tbh wouldn’t waste my time on it again.”

Negative Reddit post about JustPlay

Another added: “It seems inconsistent for me. I’ve had 400,000 coins cash in for 75 cents, and then the next day 1.6 million only got 30 cents.”

JustPlay is transparent about its coins-to-earnings conversion system in its terms of service, where it clearly states that it doesn’t guarantee profits of specific payouts and notes that reward amounts are at JustPlay’s discretion.

In other words, even if you play a lot, your rewards may be small or inconsistent, and you have no legal right to a certain payout.

Many JustPlay reviews, particularly on PissedConsumer, are from users who are unable to cash out.

Additionally, JustPlay may impose a minimum usage requirement (e.g., 3 hours) before cash-out.

Coins/rewards expire after 1 year if not redeemed.

Deleting the app or changing devices may cause loss of unused Virtual Items.

Security

We couldn’t find much information about JustPlay’s security controls.

That said, it does have a section on how it protects your facial mapping data in its privacy policy.

JustPlay says it stores your facial mapping data (up to 4 months) and photos (up to 1 month) on secure Google Cloud servers with encryption, and does not sell or share them except when legally required (e.g., by court order).

Privacy

JustPlay explains the kind of data it collects, for what purposes, and with whom it shares it in its privacy policy.

It collects the following personal information:

  • Device information (ID, OS version, IP, location, time of access).
  • Gaming progress and ad engagement.
  • Fraud risk scores (via IPQualityScore & Ipregistry).

To cash out rewards, you may need to share:

  • Name, email, and address (shared with payment providers like PayPal, Tangocard, Tremendous)
  • Facial scan via FaceTec (see Section D) for first-time payouts

Cashout history is stored for your review.

JustPay may share your data with advertising and analytics providers (AppLovin, UID2.0, RampID, etc.), cloud hosting (Google Cloud), communication services (Twilio, Zendesk), and payment providers (PayPal, Tangocard, Tremendous).

JustPay will delete your general data once it is no longer needed, or when you delete your account and your rewards/account data, provided you delete your account (subject to legal retention rules).

In its terms of service, JustPlay notes that first-time withdrawals may require a face scan for fraud prevention.

It also says that it will not share face scan data with third parties and will store it on Google Cloud Servers for a limited time.

JustPlay terms of service 6.8 section describing its automated face scan requirement

Specifically, its privacy policy states that it will store your facial mapping data for 4 months and your photo for 1 month.

Depending on where you reside, you may be able to exercise privacy rights like the right to know what data is collected or shared and the right to delete your data.

So, Should You Use JustPlay?

Depends.

If you want to casually earn a few dollars while playing games and don’t mind lots of ads and giving up some personal data (including biometric data), JustPlay can be worth trying.

But if you’re concerned about privacy or wasting time for minimal rewards, you may want to look for other options.

How to Use JustPlay Safely and Privately

  • Create a separate email. Make a separate email address for mobile rewards platforms to limit your exposure if your account is compromised, as well as to avoid spam.
  • Don’t link your social accounts. This increases data sharing.
  • Decline unnecessary permissions. Don’t permit unnecessary permissions, such as camera, location, or contacts, unless strictly required.
  • Turn off push notifications. If you don’t want tracking of your app activity or extra ads.
  • Delay payout until you’re sure. Test the JustPlay app for a few days before agreeing to the face scan, so you know if it’s worth your time.
  • Delete the app and face data. Delete the JustPlay app and request deletion of your face data once you stop using it.
  • Cash out frequently. To avoid losing coins (they expire after 1 year).
  • Track your rewards. Compare playtime vs. payout to see if it’s worth continuing.
  • Don’t buy virtual items. They’re non-refundable and add no real earning potential.
  • Use a VPN cautiously. JustPlay bans VPN use for fraud prevention, so using one risks getting banned.
  • Opt out. Of marketing cookies and personalized ads in the app’s privacy settings.
  • Limit app permissions in your phone settings. For example, turn off location unless absolutely required.
