As a collaborative project, Wikipedia maintains a transparent history of user contributions. To maintain this transparency, Wikipedia users can’t delete their accounts directly. However, users can unlink their account from personal information and cease contributing if they wish.

Walkthrough to Deleting/Unlinking Your Wikipedia Account

Unlink your Wikipedia account from your personal information in six steps.

1. Access the Wikipedia website

Go to the Wikipedia website by clicking the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org.

2. Log in to your Wikipedia account

Click “Log In” in the top right.

Log in to your Wikipedia account.

3. Click the profile icon and “Preferences”

Click the profile icon.

Then, select “Preferences” from the dropdown menu.

4. Click “User profile”

Select “User Profile” to access the personal information contained in your Wikipedia profile.

5. Change or remove your email address under ‘Email options’

Scroll to the ‘Email Options’ section. 

Here, you can replace or delete the email with which you created your account. 

6. Click “Change email”

Click the “Change email” button to complete the unlinking process.

You have unlinked your email from wikipedia.org.
