USPhoneBook Opt Out FAQs

Here are some common questions that people have about USPhoneBook.

What is USPhoneBook?

USPhoneBook is a data broker website where you can find information about someone by entering their phone number (a feature known as reverse phone number lookup). The online directory also lets you search for individuals based on their full name and/or address.

While data brokers like USPhoneBook can help you identify unknown callers and get to know the people living down the street, they also put you at risk of personal information threats like doxing, identity theft, and targeted social engineering scams.

A typical USPhoneBook report includes the following information:

  • Full name or business name.
  • Aliases.
  • Current address and previous addresses.
  • Current and previous phone numbers (including cell phone numbers, business phone numbers, and landline numbers with area codes).
  • Email addresses.
  • Relatives or known associates.

This information is available to anyone for free and can appear on a search engine like Google Search when someone looks up your name.

Every USPhoneBook profile also includes a link to a full background report (with properties & assets data, criminal records, etc.), which you can purchase from another data broker.

How to remove info from USPhoneBook?

To remove your information from USPhoneBook, follow these steps:

  1. Go to www.USPhoneBook.com, scroll down, and click ‘Do Not Sell My Personal Information.’
  2. Enter your email address, complete the captcha, and click “Begin Removal Process.”
  3. Enter your phone number.
  4. Verify that the profile that shows up is yours. Click “Remove Record.”
  5. USPhoneBook will send a confirmation email. Click “Click here to remove” within the email.
  6. Receive opt-out request confirmation.

Is USPhoneBook legit?

US Phone Book is legit in that it gives you access to people’s personal information for free, as long as you know their name/phone number/address. However, like any data broker, the accuracy of this information can vary.

How does USPhoneBook have my information (my name, phone number, etc.)?

USPhoneBook collects your private information through a variety of sources. These include, but are not limited to, public records, social media, and other data brokers.

You can make personal information removal requests to USPhoneBook and other data broker sites that publish your information by following our free opt-out guides. Or, subscribe to a data broker removal service like DeleteMe to have your information removed on your behalf.

Yes, USPhoneBook is legal in the sense that it’s not breaking any laws by publishing your personal information online. The reason why is that the vast majority of the personal data it publishes comes from public records, which are not considered confidential.

That said, it is illegal to use USPhoneBook information for certain purposes, like employment screening. Doing so would break laws like the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

How accurate is USPhoneBook?

In general, about 40% of personal information on data brokers is wrong or no longer accurate. So, while some of the data on USPhoneBook is probably right, almost half of what’s on there is likely to be wrong.

If you are wondering why this matters, you can read about the dangers of inaccurate information on data broker websites in a previous issue of our leading privacy newsletter Incognito.

How can I hide my info on USPhoneBook?

To hide your information on USPhoneBook, you need to complete an opt-out request. This involves finding your listing on USPhoneBook, verifying that the listing is yours, and following the steps to remove the record. For step-by-step instructions, you can read our guide.

You will likely need to repeat the opt-out process in a few months time. When data brokers collect more information about you, they relist your profile.

Don’t forget that it’s not just USPhoneBook that has your personal data, either. Other data brokers also publish your personal information online. We have free opt-out guides for most data broker websites and also offer a subscription service where our privacy experts can remove you from these sites on your behalf.
